Last June I left the land of 10,000 lakes, friends, family, and a comfortable job to return to the breathtaking mountains of the West. What lured me, besides the temperate climate, the amazing proximity of the peaks of the Wasatch Front, and the vibrant city thriving in the valley below? A new opportunity to weave creativity and the arts into a campus and a community in inspiring, impactful, and interesting ways.
As I settled into my new role, I listened to many stories about our program’s home, Kingsbury Hall. This historic venue means all sorts of things to all sorts of people, from the place where they saw their first rock concert, to the stage where they come to see renowned artists like Wynton Marsalis and Pilobolus, to the recital venue for thousands of local ballerinas. Powerful experiences, and a great foundation.
As the vision of bringing an abundance of creative and cultural experiences to our community expands, our work has grown beyond the foundation of Kingsbury Hall: Through performances in other venues (like the Marriott Center for Dance or Libby Gardner Hall), by connecting artists with a variety of people (like kids and teachers in our public schools or students at SLCC), and by creating partnerships to deepen our impact (with groups like the Division of Medical Ethics & Humanities to touch Medical School students). We are excited to share this evolution with the community, and look forward to welcoming you to a UtahPresents experience in the new season, wherever, or whatever, it might be.
